Re: Ear infection - now with blood! Hope they get Charlies ears sorted for him, bless him. Meg used to get a lot of ear infections as a puppy but the vet said it was cos she was teething. Once her adult teeth came through the ear infections cleared up. Glad he can still go swimming. Jen
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! It was so good to get to the treadmill after the scare it might not be possible. Bless him - today he ran to the bucket of toys, picked up his favorite starfish toy, and legged it into the cabinet to sit waiting for it to start. ;D ;D ;D Super cute!
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! Oh, he really does love it there now! Once he's all recovered, wonder if he'll still be hankering after his 'spa treatment'?
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! I think I'll still take him for swimming in the winter - on Saturday morning there was a big pile of happy dogs in the pool, having a ball. They were there for fun, or because they were getting on a bit and swimming is just generally good exercise, some were very overweight and swimming is extra exercise, some young puppies getting non weight bearing exercise etc. They were all super well behaved - we'd have to work on that! : Mind, in the summer, I hope we'll be swimming in the sea and rivers again.

Re: Ear infection - now with blood! Phil has terrible ears too. I have been taking virgin coconut oil on a q-tip and putting it on the raw, bleeding areas of his ears. His bleeding is not deep in the canal but at the base of the ear flap. It works wonders! The infection is slowing down, but still there, so we will be seeing the vet for different ointment. He is bleeding because his infection went untreated for a very long time. The difference with the coconut oil is amazing, within just a day his raw areas were cleared up completely.
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! I very much like the idea of putting something soothing on the sore bits - I'll store the idea of coconut oil in case it comes in handy, thanks. The underside of Charlie's ear flap is now red and sore looking, but the vet said no oils or anything like that (I wanted to try) - he said it would interfere with the ear drops and create more of a damp, oily atmosphere that wouldn't help Charlie. He said the ear drops had something in it that would help, and I can rub a bit on the ear flap too. So, hopefully, we'll be on the up soon.
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! It's a bit better tonight, and he has stopped scratching it. So fingers crossed. These eardrops I have don't get rid of it though (hopefully the lab test results will tell us what will later in the week) but they make it considerably better.
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! A bit of relief for the poor boy is a very good thing though. Hope you have a complete resolution soon
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! Just got home and checking in on Charlie, glad he made his hydro session and love that he is enjoying it so much.lets hope these swabs diagnose the ear problem properly. How did the new walk go? Big cuddles to Charlie xxx
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! Ah, thanks, Angela. Good trip home? How is Dex? Please to see you I bet. We did good at the common yesterday. He was a bit excited at a few other dogs and did his stand still thing, then jump up and down and refuse to walk away thing. And we had quite a few side lunges to interesting sniffs, but on the whole, good. Me and Shona (that's wonderous dog walking helper) were pretty chuffed. I felt brave today, and there was a tube strike, so OH and I took Charlie up to the common for his mid afternoon walk. Charlie and OH are an excitable combination, and OH doesn't like me stopping Charlie from misbehaving - so nags. But we did ok. Charlie was bit worse (OH says Ooooo and cuddles Charlie and gives him treats if he whines if I stop him from getting to another dog : ) but not terrible. We still only do 20 mins or so, because Charlie gets a bit stressed with the constant stopping until he behaves, but I think we'll get there. I have a little modest dream of walking my dog through the common woods, on a lead, with no drama. :

I reckon you're more likely to get there than I am after an excursion to Southampton common last week

Nice try to make me feel better - but I've met your beautifully behaved boy... but thanks all the same!
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! It was fascinating to go somewhere completely new, lots of traffic both people and cars and once we got to the common quite a few dogs. We'd need some serious practice to go off lead there. Amazing how we regress and need to proof again from the beginning. Many stops and about turns plus verbal encouragement required while he remembered his training and what heel really means ;D
Re: Ear infection - now with blood! O Riley - I bet he was still nowhere near our mad, embarrassing moments though. Although, I will allow myself a little bit of credit - Wimbledon Common is one of the busiest places in terms of dogs, people, joggers, bikes, walkers, yoga mat exercisers, kids, skateboards... The funniest thing was once last summer when a chap decided he would do his press ups in the middle of the most popular off lead dog fields. Hah ha. He had dogs jumping all over him! (Including Charlie :-[ ). And if Charlie sees a yoga mat, he thinks it's "game on" to nick the water bottles... : :-[ : Mind, it was all too wet today for most of that.
