    Re: Ears :(

    Back from the vets....
He's not a specialist but is the owner of the longest established vet practice in Dubai, originally hailing from Cornwall. He said physically Dexters ears appear normal, the 'debris' he can see inside is a little bit of wax ( I have been flushing every other day though since his last checkup)He said retrospectively ( not having seen them originally ) any increased ear irritations might have been due to him eating something to which he has been allergic his ears could then overproduce histimines .....the time frame of that theory would fit in with the episode when he was violently sick after hoovering up the little fruits in the park ???.he says there is nothing abnormal about the amount of wax he could see and to stop the flushing and cleaning and just let them look after themselves for now unless I note any other changes ......so I'll watch and wait x

Glad the vet has said dexter is fine.

I can't talk because I'm a born worrier especially when it comes to my dogs but try and forget about the ears if you can and I bet like the vet said they will look after themselves. If your anything like me though that will take some doing because every time he shakes you'll be wondering. ::)

Murphy had quite a few ear infections and was prone to dirty ears. I used to clean them out with a special solution once a month. I don't know for sure but I think if you do too much when it's not really necessary you can end up creating a problem because your removing the natural oils etc.

They like to keep us on our toes these dogs of ours. ;)

Good news! Hope it turns out ok.

The inside of the ear should be dry - so Jen is right that anything introduced in the way of cleaners is altering the natural state. But ears need also to be clean - the skin cells of the ear shed and move outwards (this is the self cleaning mechanism - interestingly, the dermatologist could tell how fast this mechanism is working from looking at the skin cells, Charlie's self cleaning mechanism is working overtime trying to cope, and it very much needs a hand).

    Re: Ears :(

Amy has a poorly ear too! Noticed head shaking and pawing her ears on Friday night. Normally I flush them and she stops but this time I noticed her right ear was very dirty. Flushed again yesterday and mentioned it to vet at her booster appointment and has given us some drops!

She is hiding frm me now, how can I make it less stressful for us as she really didn't like it the flushing/drops. Guess it was because it's painfully this time?
