Out walking Molly this morning I met a lady who looked as though she was in her seventies with a dog which she told me was a Husky/ Malamute cross. He was a friendly, well behaved dog, trotting calmly along beside her, off lead. The lady made a fuss of Molly and told me she'd always had Labs or GRs but that now she was older she needed a less energetic breed that was easier to manage - I must admit a Husky wouldn't have been the first breed to spring to my mind! (Though he obviously suited her.)
I think there are a few different breeds which in my dog breed ignorance I lump under the heading of "husky". Certainly, Charlie knows 2 husky type dogs who are definitely lower energy than he is (although he is himself on the nutty end of the young Labrador scale of course) and I'd say that they have been quite carefully bred to be suitable pets, not to pull sleds in a pack living outside. So it might depend on exactly the type and breeding of the husky.....
Definitely not what I'd call an easy breed. Glad she was lucky enough to get a laid back one (some can be but I wouldn't like to take a chance myself).
I have a nearly 10 year old Mal, Jasper and Meg who is an 18 month old lab. Once he got over the teenage phase he's been a delight. I am a runner and he trots for miles by my side. He is no bother at all but we do have loads of space. Think he could have been a nightmare without have loads of land to play on. That said Meg is my 5th dog and definitely from day 1 been the easiest dog I have ever had. I am a total lab convert now
