Nero has developed a taste for any kind of poo! He regularly goes to eat other dog poo on walks and today he gulped down some horse poo! He does eat his own now and again which i am not so worried about but surely eating other dogs/animals poo isnt good for him!
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! Unfortunately, this is common , gross though it is : : Best way to deal with it is distraction , teach him the LEAVE command , use it and offer a treat , a sort of swap . Its something you want to discourage as much as possible but dont worry, most go through it and come out of it just fine
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! Yep - its pretty gross. Leave-it command is the key though. When Lilly ate too much she might have a couple of loose poops, but nothing too upsetting.
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! He does leave it if i catch him in time. Is this just a puppy phase maybe? Do they grow out of it?
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! They do, but stick at the Leave command , its a habit that, if ignored, can become a problem in that its harder to deal with once well established
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! As a pup and young dog, my last lab Bella ate her own poo and other dogs, horses and even cows, never foxes though this was only for rolling in!! Often she would do this off lead so the leave it command was sometimes a tad late for me but she did grow out it and never done it as an older dog. I just hope our new pup who will be coming home in 5 1/2 weeks does not do the same as it was pretty horrid habit!
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! Yes it is disgusting....especially when he tries to lick my face after he has done it! errgh!
Re: Eating poo.....any kind! If Scout can get to the cat litter before us she is in her element, unfortunately it makes her vomit and the one thing worse then watching her eat a fresh cat poo is seeing her bring it back up and then having to clean it up. The leave or no command is definitely the answer..
