My two will chew biscuits given to them one by one, but gulp from their bowls. Dogs' sense of taste is actually pretty poor compared to ours (although it's also very different - they can't taste salt but can taste water), so their enjoyment comes more from the smell. Chewing to slow down and "enjoy their food" just doesn't mean anything to them Like Julie, my two don't get much in their bowls at all, so it's not like they're going to have a huge mass of food suddenly hitting their stomachs. If they reproduce the food, I let them get on with eating it. If it's a proper vomit, they won't touch it, but it's more often than not a regurgitation, and by stopping them eating it again, you're depriving them of their dinner, which is very mean in my opinion They did this a lot more as puppies than they do now. It's very rare indeed now.
That's what I repeat to myself as a dog scoffs down it's own puke. That, and "at least I don't have to clean it up"
The other morning I could hear gagging sounds coming from Scully's crate, followed by slurping noises. When I went to check on her, all the evidence was gone. Just a slightly damp place near her head. Was a bit worried about her but she was fine, so I guess she was just enjoying her kibble for the second time round.
funny how this just happened earlier. i suppose he got too many liver treats and he properly regurgitated them out. i let him clean it as best as he can and hit it with the enzyme cleaner when he was done. better than picking up biley pieces of food.
