I have been carrying Annie out twice a day for a look around our village. Seen horses, sheep, cars, men old and young, a small boy and she was very good. She had her last vaccination on Friday so it won't be long before she can go to puppy classes. Today I have taken her out in the car, just of a quick run out, she cried. So I awaited until this afternoon and took her again. I didn't talk to her when she cried, but when she was quiet. I gave her a treat and said good girl. Much better we will be going out every day until we get it right. I have never had a Lab before that didn't like the car.

Don't worry Cath, it will pass I`m sure ;) Its a big new world out there and some things are scary , you did right to give her a treat and encouraging words when she was quiet . Try sitting in the car with her, no engine running, loads of fuss , then move to engine on and not moving . So pleased that you have been taking her out and about, not long now until she can walk herself, exciting times x

It will be great when you can get out and about walking with her...I think you did great with her in the car.Dexter was a lot older than Annie when he came to us and he wasn't happy about being in the car.....I tried lots of different things.....but the main thing that helped was lots of little journeys round the block and completely ignoring him when he whined.I realised he was fine and quiet until I' started up talking to him and asking him if he was ok?

Thanks both of you. Annie doesn't mind sitting in the car, but when it starts moving she cries. I think if I do it every day she will get use to it.
Well I hope so because we are all going to France in the summer

She will get used to it, small steps will soon have her travelling in the car with no problems. Exciting going to France with the dogs - where are you off to? It's easy to travel in France with dogs and tends to be much more relaxed than the UK.

She will get used to it and probably quite quickly once car rides lead to a walk at the other end. Molly is the first of my dogs to have hated the car as a pup - her howling came as a real shock! But once she could go on the ground I did 2 minute journeys every day to the beach and within a week she was fine, and a couple of weeks after that we did a four hour trip to visit family with no problems.

I am just going to take her out again now. Will let you know how she gets on.
We are going to the same place as we went to last year Rosemary, Chavasse Farm, Hardecourt aux Bois. We use it as a base. We travel to Etretat to the west and as far as Belgium to the west. So now you can see why Annie needs to get use to the car.

She is a real beauty :D. Love the photo of Fred resting his head on her as she sleeps. Chavasse Farm looks really lovely (just had to google it :rolleyes:). She will be fine travelling within a matter of days and an old hand by the time your holiday comes around :D. If not she can come and stay with me ;)

Thanks everyone. Just got back for our run out. I took Fred too and Annie wasn't a bad as before. Now she is having a sleep.
I am making up a list of all the places she needs to go to. I need to take her to a school when the children are coming out and when she can go on the floor we will need to visit a town. She is booked in for puppy class on the 4 February.

Well today she did it. She went out in the car for a 10 mins ride and didn't make a sound :D I will now make the trips longer and hopefully she will be fine. Its taken 15 days to get this far, not too bad.

That's pretty good going, now to slowly build up the time. I'm sure she'll be even better nice she learns going in the car leads to nice events like walks ;) . Not long now to puppy class begins :)

Took Annie out this morning on her lead for her first walk. Just us girls, left Fred at home with OH. She did really well and did a lot of sniffing. She loved the birds and we meet a man who made a fuss of her. She sat nicely for him. I only took her up to the top of lane and back (about 10 mins), but will take her out again this afternoon after Fred's walk.

    She's lovely!

Both Tatze and Gypsy were criers in the car when tiny - they soon grew out of it :)

Last night Annie and I had our girls night out (puppy training class). Annie was shy at first, but soon came around.
She sat nicely when asked and we did some heel work. Then she did a sit stay for about 10 seconds :D until I came back to her. She meet a nice choc boy Lab and a Cockapoo another boy. There were 6 puppies in the class and the time soon went. We have our homework to do for next week.
