Good. You've picked a well qualified chap to see - that's so important. I hope that you have a way forward for your girl. Best of luck, sending the warmest wishes to you.

Mabel had her CT scan today, it's not brilliant news. She has really bad arthritis in both her elbows. The scans show lots of bulging knobbly bits rather than smooth lines. She also has really spindly front legs and hasn't developed properly in her shoulders. All that is due to the fact she puts as much weight as she can on her back legs. I've bought her home as I don't want her being lonely, tomorrow we go back to hospital and she has keyhole surgery to remove the loose fragments of cartilage. He said he wouldn't rush any other type of surgery as 8 out 10 Labradors do really well once they have had the loose bits removed. He also said that under no circumstances would he remove any bone from her front legs as the vet had explained. In his opinion it would be of no benefit and would only cause her unnecessary pain and discomfort. In his opinion that type of operation needs to be done at around 4 months and of course ED doesn't present itself so early. I'm pleased to say that he thought my exercise regime for her was very good, he suggested she didn't do anything that involves quick turns and was fast paced. I'd explained she just won't play fetch but loves tug. He wasn't surprised, tug is fine for her.
I really sobbed my heart out in the car, now I think onwards and upwards. She can actually do loads of different things they will just be our focus, walking in the countryside, chasing blossom sounds good to me :)

Oh, so sorry, you must be gutted. :(

But at least you know what the story is now, you've got a diagnosis and a plan going forward. Good luck tomorrow with the keyhole surgery and everything crossed that will be enough to give her release from pain and for her to have a happy and active life.

I'm so sorry that the news isn't better. You are doing the very best for her, you've got her to a good place.

I can completely understand you weeping, it's heartbreaking. But, hopefully, you'll be able to give her a good quality of life - and like you say, there is lots she can do that will make her happy, and you'll be happy with her. Best wishes to you.

Took Mabel for her surgery. Walked into reception she took one look at their nicely polished floor. Did the hugest poo ever, went round biting chairs and tried to go through the bin. The nurse said what a beauty can't believe there is anything wrong the way she bounces about. That's my girl. Thank you all for the most amazing support and comfort. Xxx

God Bless you and Mabel! I'm sending you good thoughts and prayers. Being on the other side of the pond, I don't think I get the news till later. I'm so sorry she had to have surgery, but she sure does seem to be a fighter, including letting them know who she was immediately with her poo! LOL!! I am hoping the surgery goes well and she recovers quickly. She's lucky to have you to care for her ... but I think she probably knows that. Keep us posted and take care of YOU too! It's so hard. Our Maggie had to have a toe removed a few years before we lost her. She would run round and round the pool crazy, especially when all the family was here and she dislocated it. Vet said best thing was just to take it off. Nothing as serious as what you are going through, and she was fine afterwards, but I feel for you since I remember dropping her off that morning and crying and crying in the car. It's very difficult .... but you have a plan and I think Mabel seems to be in good hands with your Vet. Hugs to you both!

Hope today went well and she is comfortable and you get a good nights sleep if they keep her at the clinic x

Thank you, they are keeping her over night as she's had both elbows done. I've spring cleaned the house, been shopping at the supermarket and then looked for a dress for my sons wedding. I planned to sit in the sun, didn't seem half as interesting without my girl pruning and digging up the garden x

You'll feel better once she is home with you tomorrow. What's the recovery plan? Has she been treated with key hole surgery or are you looking at a longer rehab?
