Hi, I hope you are all safe in these trying times! My 9 month labrador has always been an outside dog, but we are now introducing him inside the house more and more often to make him a indoor dog. However, he keeps running around chewing up the plants, pulling things off counters, jumping on all of us and the couch, and just constantly asks for attention. How do I stop this behaviour?
Here in Canada we don't really have " outdoor dogs" due to the climate so I have no experience with this exact situation.
Hi Punga, set up some props outside where he is below threshold. Teach him to leave things alone on your prop table. Dog should be on lead. Teach him go to mat. Heavily reinforce successful repetitions. Move the show into the least distracting room in your house. Should still be on lead. Re-teach the behaviours. Use positive reinforcement liberally. Reinforce small approximations of the desired behaviour. Give him a Toppl with semi-frozen mince meat on his mat located inside. Enrol in a force free obedience club.
Hi! I'm sorry for the very late reply but thank you so much for all of the tips! I will definitely incorporate these into his transition
