How awful. Hugs to you from here too. I hope the vet will be able to give you some answers and some relief for Euan.
The vet confirmed he was in a lot of pain. There is nothing more to be done about it, just pain relief. So he is getting carprodyl which he already had, combined with tramadol retard 2times daily. He is allowed to go with the dog walker on their walks. Otherwise he will become too stiff. The problems he has are his back and his enkle and shoulder. He is in too bad shape to operate on him. So hopefully the painkillers will kick in for the rest of his life! Annemarie
Glad he has had some pain relief. My first dog had a lifelong spinal injury (a very bad one) and we found Metacam/meloxicam to be very effective. It relaxed the muscles and relieved the pain without making him drowsy.
I hope handsome Euan finds relief with his pain killers - this must be a terribly stressful time for you xx
Tonight he is still in a lot of pain. I put up his biabed, but he is still unable to walk properly. Despite the tramadol (opiates) and carprodyl ( NSAID's). Hopefully he sleeps well and is less painfully tomorrow! Finn is very impressed by his big brother. He is very obedient! Annemarie
He slept well. He is very stiff and is still panting as if he is still in pain. He has gotten his medicine and after an hour he stood up and lay on the wooden floor. Now he went back to his warm and nice bed. This bed has memory foam and is quite large and comfy. I hope that the large amount of pain killers are finally kicking in. I think he is a bit nauseous..... This morning my husband remembered why he perhaps is in so much pain. He went with the two dogs out in the woods on Sunday. They made a long walk, but he was surprised about Euan running through the woods and was faster then our 2 year old Finn! I guess that did it for his spine problems!
Just caught up with your post , am so very sorry to hear of your dear Euans distress ,hoping the rest will make an improvement, good luck x
