Euan was groggy yesterday evening. We had to wake him up with much effort to go for his evening walk before bedtime. He slept very well....
This morning when we came down the stairs he stood in front of the door, waggling his tail and greeted us! Like nothing has happened!!!!
I am thrilled he is doing so good! Although it is under heavy medication. We will continue to give the medication for the remaining days (5 days in total)and then start to diminish the amount!.

Great to hear that he is feeling better, even though he is drowsy. That must be a huge relief!

That is good to hear. It is horrible when they are in pain.

That's wonderful news. There's nothing like being greeted by a wagging tail especially when I bet you'd been worrying all night how he would be.

I'm glad to read that he seemed to be so much better after such a frightening decline....,glad you've been able to find meds to manage his pain and I guess it's more sedate excercise from now on Mr Euan! X

So glad that Euan is improving, that wagging tail must have been such a blessing for you to see. He looks such a handsome boy in his photo.

We have stopped his opiates now. He is still doing good, considering.... I don't want to give him too much opiates, he was so groggy and had to wake him up when he had to go for for his "business". He also became a little frightened like he was tripping on his medication. I will keep a close eye on him. Today I went for a walk in the woods and it was like he went through his right front leg again (sort of limping). I know he has a very bad back, and he can't compensate with his front legs anymore for they hurt too. I have enough opiates and as soon as I see him limping I start giving his opiates again. He is still getting carprodyl (= meta am)for pain management.

Last week I was in hospital. The dog walker had walked the dogs twice a day and gave them their food. On Tuesday my husband came home and found Euan lying apathetic in his crate. He had wet his bed, everything was soaked. He was panting and saliva came out of his mouth. My husband called the dog walker. They hadn't noticed anything wrong with him. Just that he drank much....

The other day he was his normal self. But now we have to tell him when we walk him that he has to do his wee and point him into the direction where he can do that. Otherwise he won't wee and come back home without doing his thing.

Is it possible that he can't feel he has to wee? Did he have a epileptic seizure? He is so fragile.....He is not getting opiates, just the carprodyl.

Poor boy, poor you. Yes, urinary incontinence is a possiblity, from neurological damage due to the herniated disk and/or to the pain meds. We had faecal incontinence (much easier to deal with) in our girl and could never be sure which it was caused by.

Yes, he could have had a seizure. We just dealt with this with our neighbour's dog and when she seized she pee'd and sometimes pooped too. In this dog's case someone was with her all day, every day. If you can't manage that then maybe consider a nanny cam thing to record what's going on? If you can't see a seizure happening maybe the camera would catch it. Even if you do see what might be a seizure, if you have a person to video it would help your Vet.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. Hope you yourself are better since your own hospital visit.
