we got our 8 week old pup yesterday and was wondering what sort of routine he should have before going in to his crate at half 11 when we go to bed. He has his last bit of food at 7 as per what the breeder said...so do we allow him to sleep and play as he wishes or do we try and limit sleep in the lead up to bed time.

I hope this makes sense....first night with him last night was rough so my brain isn’t quite functioning this morning ha ha

How exciting for you after you have waited all this time to bring him home!
There is no right and wrong answer, you will work out over the next few days what does and doesn't work.
Always make sure that last job is a visit to the garden. Then pop him in his crate, lights out. Set your alarm for 2am, out for a quiet wee, and back to bed.
    Good luck!

Hi! We have a 13 week old now so are still going through the same things....we seem to have settled into last food around 6pm....then a walkie around 7ish and then he usually plays and chews and chews and chews and stays awake till around 8.30 when I do one more garden trip, then he seems to want to relax with a bit more chewing and then naps till around 10.30 till we go out for a last wee....he then sleeps till 6-6.30am no problems....
We tried keep him awake later at first but he simply didn’t want to and would get over tired....before collapsing asleep anyway!

We used to limit the water intake after 8pm and try got her moving during last play session so she would do her po before putting her in crate at 10:30 pm

The evenings in our household are either nights when the pup comes out to a training class, or the pup comes to hang out in the lounge with us and the older dogs - on a puppy houseline to prevent harassing them! It's usually quite a high-energy time to help the pup get tired before bed...
