Re: Excersise for puppies - how much exactly? Istvan, what you are doing sounds fine to me too. I took Molly out 3 times a day for about 30 minutes each time at that age. This didn't mean we were on the move all the time- I used to drive to an off-lead area and much of the time I'd be standing talking to someone or just ambling about while she scampered, sniffed etc. Or I would drive to the seafront and sit with her on a bench watching the world go by, and getting a fuss from passers by. As long as the pup can rest when it wants to I feel being out and about is a healthy thing.
Re: Excersise for puppies - how much exactly? Thank you Angela and Joy, From what I gather so far the key thing seems to be the option to take a rest. I didn't understand why they can't do the exact same thing in the park what they do in the garden (sniffing, playing, running, chewing, relaxing) but now I understand that the thing to watch is that they must be able to have a rest and not MADE to walk or run. So, if he is allowed to lay down (or slow down) any time and is being monitored for signs of tiredness, then it seems to be fine to exceed that 5 minute rule time allowance without problems. This seems to be the opinion of most owners in this thread if I read it right.
Re: Excersise for puppies - how much exactly? For me, I think it was important to be able to stop and go home when puppy was tired, not just give him a rest. So that meant walking a few circuits round the wood not too far from the car, rather than setting off for a hike when puppy would stilll have to walk back after he was showing signs of being tired, even if either way we'd have walked the same distance. That, and remembering my little hooligan wasn't always the best one to decide when enough was enough.
Re: Excersise for puppies - how much exactly? Hello and welcome from me too, I think you have it just right . Pups do tire very quickly though, so remember that wherever you have walked to , you also have to walk back
