Excessive licking

    My 18month old lab bitch constantly licking her hind leg and has made it very sore she also is licking her paws not sure if it's an allergy not sure how to treat please help.

    I think you need to go and see your vet. She might need antibiotics and other medication to stop the cycle of itch, scratch and making it sore.

    You could try rinsing her feet off after a walk, to get rid of any bothersome pollens or weed killer or whatever the heck she might have gotten on her feet. But AFter you check with the Vet, so he/she can see if there is anything there.

    So difficult to know why dogs lick, but seems they lick excessively either if itchy or if in pain. We struggle the same with Snowie, wondering if he's licking due to itchiness or pain. If it's just one leg she's licking, I'd be worried she was in pain there and would definitely be seeking a vet's examination.
