We've just spent a few days in Exmoor which is one of the most generally dog friendly places we've been! We stayed at Riscombe Farm cottages, you can take your horse as well as your dog. Nice, clean, comfortable cottage with goats, sheep and chickens on site. I was welcome to walk Riley in any of their fields....I kept him on his long line with the sheep and one of the goats gave him a gentle headbutt

We went to Dunster beach and ate at the Luttrell Arms Hotel in town where Riley was welcome in more rooms than Lizzie lol

Porlock Wier is very pretty but the pebble beach has some real ankle turners, the Bottom Ship Inn was our lunch location and was full of very well behaved dogs, luckily Riley was no exception :D

I can imagine all of the above are very busy in high summer though....early spring was perfect!

I found north Devon very dog friendly, so different to most places who seem to be against dogs. There was an outdoor cafe where the resident dog just wandered around and there was a general air of times past :)

Luttrell Arms .. that brings back memories from when my wife and I were courting, over 30 years ago. We'd take the dogs for a romp over Dunkery Beacon then down to the Luttrell for lunch. It's a lovely area, and I'm glad that you enjoyed your holiday there.

Glad you enjoyed ..... just think, you'd have had to drive past the Quantocks which are rather like a mini-Exmoor :)

We've enjoyed a few (muddy ;) ) mountain biking trips to the Quantocks. We're yet to go back with Lizzie and Riley but it'll happen, no doubt! :D

I live on Exmoor, at the foot of Dunkery, so I'm a bit biased but I think this place is a real hidden gem and one of the most beautiful places in the UK. The wildness of the moor and the dramatic coast line are just stunning. Dunster beach is one of the favourite places of my dogs, a place to run and swim and have fun! :D Looking forward to seeing you in the summer, Barbara. :)

Oooh that's fighting talk lol. The Quantocks is, of course, far superior but has no coastal point

We love Exmoor too. We only discovered this hidden gem last Spring and ended up going back again later in the year.

We stayed here... http://www.littlequarme-cottages.co.uk/ ...and they allowed us to take all five of our dogs, which was fantastic. Beautiful old cottages in fantastic grounds, with breathtaking views. The dogs loved it, as did we. :D

We liked Dunster Beach and Dunster itself, we never did get around to going on the steam railway though, but we'll do that one next time.

Our favourite beach in the area is a little further afield and that is ... http://www.sauntonbeach.info/saunton-beach-section.asp?id=2&category=Dog+Walking . You can walk for miles and miles along the soft sand and over the dunes. The dogs REALLY enjoyed themselves there.

Lynmouth/Lynton is a lovely place too. Some lovely places to walk along the river and they do great fish and chips in the harbour. We stopped there a couple of times on our way to other places and shared our fish and chips with the "girls" 8) .

Tarr Steps is a Must Go To place there too. The girls had a great time swimming there.

We'll definitely be going back there, as there was still so much more to see and do. :)

We went to Lynton/Lynmouth when we were there last year and had a lovely day. Riley even went on the railway up the hill and back down :)

The nearest beach is Dunster beach. But one of my favourite beaches is Saunton Sands in North Devon near Braunton. It is a bit of a drive from Wheddon Cross but well worth it!
