As part of our pre-breeding health screening, I took Poppy to a specialist eye clinic today. She was very, very good and put up with having drops put in her eyes, with a half hour wait for her pupils to dilate fully, and then she also stood completely still for the nice lady vet to peer into her eyes with a sort of torch. I stood by and held Pops, but she was a little star and only showed a bit of her anxiety with some lip-licking. The vet used a small camera so I could see the inside of Poppy's eyes on a screen in real time, which was a bit weird. Very happy to say she has a clean bill of health - clear for MPP, cataracts, retinal dysplasia, CEA, entropion, PRA, and a host of other unpleasant eye ailments. A blood test was taken too, which will be sent off for genetic screening. Something rather unpleasant occurred regarding another dog and his owner, but I'll put that on another thread as it was behaviour and training related. Poppy's eyes are still a bit dilated, and as we have snow on the ground which will make things too bright for her, I think we'll skip the afternoon walk. She seems very tired anyway, it clearly was quite a stressful experience! But she enjoyed all the praise and especially the treats : so every cloud has a silver lining, I suppose...
Re: Eye testing Good girl Poppy Fingers crossed for the bloods! Amazing how these new experiences tire them isn't it, our fit dogs who will run all day if you let them
Re: Eye testing Exactly Angela, every time we cross off one of these boxes I get quietly more excited!

Re: Eye testing How long does the certificate last for, Karen? I know that UK Labrador breeders tend to test once a year.
Re: Eye testing So...er...do you have a rough timetable in mind...just so we can start clearing our calendars and helping you test the webcam, things like that...
Re: Eye testing Yes, the rough timetable is early next year. I'm expecting Poppy to come into heat in April, so if her cycle stays the same we'd be looking at April next year
