Hi All. Bailey is 4 months old, when I got her at 8 weeks the breeder told me to feed her 3 times a day however I found that she would have runny poos on and off and it seemed too much for her puppy tummy so I changed it to 4 feeds and it really improved. I was just wondering how many feeds other pups of a similar age are on? The reason I ask is because Bailey is a right scavenger when we’re out and about. Don’t get me wrong, I know this is typical lab behaviour but she eat copious amounts of poo if she finds it. I’m talking 4, 5 Times and she’s gobbled it up before I can stop her! Anyway I wondered if now might be the right time to try and change back to 3 feeds to try and fill her up a bit more each time!! I know she will always love cat poo, rabbit poo etc. but wondering if it might help?!!!
My 11 week old girl is on 3 feeds a day 85 grams of arden grange large breed per feed will be working up to 90 over next few days poo is kickable most of the time so all is good
I think the first thing to do is to address the habit of eating poo ! This can cause awful tummy issues and even diseases or worms . Have a look in the Labrador Behaviour section , and in the pinned post at the top of that section, you will see a link to behavioural issues and problems , scroll down to the link to the article about eating poo . It is something that many dogs do, but it isn't a desirable behaviour , start with trying to fix this first . Re feeding , I always fed four meals a day until about four months , then three meals a day until around six months and from then on , two meals per day, hope this helps .
I feed my 11 week old boy 3 times a day, never bothered with 4, as the breeder only fed 3 times solids with milk in between (which I don't give). He is fine with that. I try to avoid kicking the poos, but I could.
