Hi all. Do you have a recommended feeding schedule. The breeder gave us one but it seems really inappropriate as the last feed is 9:30pm and we go to bed about 11pm an it just not enough time to digest in rolos little stomach I will of course make any change gradually. He's on royal cannin junior maxi and the guides they gave us was 8am, 3:30pm and 9:30 Advice appreciated x
Stanley's now on 7.30am, 13:00 and 18:30. With a little snack before bed. When he was on 4 meals a day it was 6:30/11am/15:00/18:30.
Thanks silver falcon I wonder why the breeder had our puppy on 3 meals. Does anyone know of any negative stuff to breaking up his allowance into 4 meals a day ?
The reason that meals are split into 4 is so tiny pups don't get runny poo/upset tums from too much food all at once. Charlie came home already on 3 meals a day, Betsy on 4. You could switch Rolo from 3 meals to 4, but if he is doing well on 3 there isn't much point. I switched Betsy to 3 meals almost right away, because I switched kibble to a much lower volume kibble, and she was fine. Then found I was using her lunch as training treats, so she was on 2 meals a day, 8am and 6pm, like my adult dog, from about 11 or 12 weeks. Which was very convenient. The only thing that really matters is that the timings and frequency suit your puppy (and yourself of course).
Larks has been eating at 7:30, 12, and 5-5:30 since we brought her home. She seems to be doing great on that schedule.
