Thanks Boogie. That makes me feel better. I know my vet stocks it because that is who they have a relationship with but wasn't sure if it was as good as say orijen with regard to content.

I have been for a tour round the Royal canin factory and was quite impressed :) x

We changed Ted's feed from Purina Pro Plan Robust Puppy to Akela 80:20 but wont be staying with it. Although the transition between foods was gradual, Ted's stomach was a bit upset, and I have grown concerned about the amount of protein in Akela. There seems to be a lot of advice from experts that too much protein is not good for house dogs (as opposed to working dogs that use up masses of energy). I have done some research on a couple of websites (allaboutdogfood.co.uk and edogadvisor.co.uk. I am going to make a gradual switch to Millie's Woolfheart Riverside Mix based on the nutritional content and the high number of top rated reviews from users.

I was pleasantly surprised when I called to place the order. I was encouraged to discuss my dog's needs with their nutritionist first. I did that and found I had chosen the right one out of their range. It's arrived already, no extra cost for postage. I'll report back when he is exclusively on it. Should be a while yet.

I have Corona on Acana which is made by the same company as Origen. I called the company before making the switch and they suggested the Acana since it is slightly lower in protein than Origen, especially since Corona has such a sensitive stomach. They said dogs with sensitive tummies may not do well with the high protein in Origen. It still took well over a month to make the switch but she is doing fantastic on it so far.

Hi I have had my fox red lab Rosie for 3 weeks now and she is doing great, she is on BETA puppy which I know is not great and want to switch her to a better puppy food asap! so much out there I am struggling to find the right one.

She is a great puppy but she keeps waking up between 4 and 5 am every morning hungry!! As a busy mum with 3 kids and working full time (don't worry shes not left on her own I took the first week off, my kids have been on school holidays for 2 weeks and my partner is off for 3 weeks and we have made arrangements after that) I would really like a 6am wake up call which gives us nearly 2 hours in the morning before work with her and another hour with the kids before they go to school.

I wondered if because the food she is on isn't filling her up properly it's causing her to wake early? And if a better food would keep her going that bit longer? She never cries for food in the day, but will not go to the bathroom when we get up to her, just wants food!!! I tried feeding her later than the usual 6pm but that hasn't worked. Nor has keeping her up later, but she has a good routine that I don't want to disrupt....Any suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks.

We use Acana as well. It's Canadian made so supporting local. We went this route because of avaiabilty. The Origen was harder to source. We used the large breed puppy and we're only feeding about 3.5 cups a day for a 34kg pup. He's almost ready for the switch to the adult food. I liked that the Acana kibble was bigger, it actually slowed his eating down a bit. He seemed to Hoover the smaller sized brands kibble up in no time.

What's her feeding schedule like right now? She is I am guessing about 11 weeks old? At that age it usual to wake and need a wee or poo. When our last puppy woke at this time I would quietly take her outside to let her have a wee, then, without any interaction popped her back in her crate with a small kong to settle. Also we used to give our pups a bedtime biscuit.

Food wise, well there are lots of good puppy feeds out there! I would go for the best quality you can afford designed for large puppy breeds ideally as the ratio of calcium to phosphorus is designed to support slower bone growth. I personally like single source protein diets made with novel proteins, this means not the commonly used proteins in dog food such as beef or chicken, to reduce the risk of any tummy problems, or if there are it is easier to identify the culprit and remove from your pups diet. That's just my personal preference. I like fish, venison, lamb and turkey in our dogfood :)

I have been using Eagle Pack for large breed puppies. She's been doing great on it! Three solid poops per day (or four if we've been really having fun ) at regular intervals. Has anyone else used it?
