Yesterday, we spent a fantastic hour with Coco & Belle in the field in the sunshine, practicing lead walking, recall & off lead walking, using little food treats & a ball. He is coming along well with all 3. Belle doesn't recall still . He was less in Belle's face, I think because we were fresh in his memory from Saturday, but when he had a mad, butt-tucking attack of the zoomies around the trees, he was trying to toss Belle over - she was NOT impressed and gave a couple of almighty snarl-snaps. We have booked our home-check for Wednesday. OH going up on his own tomorrow for an hour. We're really appreciating the time they're giving us - could never have imagined this. Have to laugh - he reminds of Scooby in that he calms down on his lead once he's had a poo.
Sounds so good. Of course there will be a settling down period. When are you hoping to take him home?
Aiming for 5th September - we are both off work for a week then to help with settling in. It's so sad to leave him in the kennels in the mean time, but definitely for the best, give everyone a chance.
Good luck with the home check. It's really good that you and your OH have managed to see him on a regular basis. It should help make the transition easier.
Home check passed! They didn't turn up when they said they would. I had to go to work. OH went up to kennels & they apologised, saying the inspector had got tied up with the police! (the Isle of Man dog warden has been abolished and I think the MSPCA have to step in at times). Sent someone round this afternoon to inspect the garden (without us) - fine (it's small but with >6ft fences), and the lady asked him a single question - will the dog get the run of the house when you're out - answer - No, about half of the house. I've no idea what the "wrong" answer is. Anyway - plan is 5th September, Coco comes to his forever home. Exciting times ahead.
Oh, that is so exciting! I can't wait to hear about how he settles in. Well done to you for taking on a rescue and being so diligent about making sure he'll fit into your family
