I lost my precious yellow 2years ago and I can’t take it anymore. I will be giving one a great home and life But don’t know where to start. My community has a size restriction on dogs so I will need to find a smaller Dog. How do I go about finding a breeder that breeds smaller labs. I would even take an older dog if she fit the size. Please, any help would be appreciated
Hi Gail, welcome to the forum Hopefully some of our members will be along to share their experiences shortly, but in the meantime we've written about small Labs here on our main site as well. Good luck with your search.
Hi Gail, my feeling is that no reputable breeder would be able to guarantee you a small Labrador. While some lines of labs are smaller than others, if you have to meet some kind of size restriction, it's difficult to see how you could be sure of getting a puppy that didn't outgrow that. Maybe a full grown rescue lab would be the best way forward. Or perhaps a cross breed. How is your community defining this size limit? Height? Or weight?
I had the same thought. It would be terrible to have to give up a dog that grew too big. If the limit was like 70 lbs. It would be a pretty safe bet from a small line. I think if it was 50 lbs it would be a real crap shoot. A full grown dog or a smaller breed might be a better risk.
