As a wolfhound I don't think Finnegan really qualifies for the Labrador site but as I've mentioned him so often I thought I ought to let you all know that we lost him this evening. He went into toxic shock this afternoon and we made the decision that enough was enough. Poor boy had fought against this dreadful condition and given it his all but it simply wasn't to be. He went very peacefully, unfortunately it was at the vets surgery (we'd gone for an emergency consult, not PTS) so my girls are looking for him, although they have sort of got used to him not being around as much. At some point I'll add his obit to Hebe's blog. When I do I'll add a link to the thread. I've not been part of this forum for very long but you've all been so kind; thank you for all your previous best wishes. Kerryn and my girls (and Finnegan's too), Maia and Hebe
Re: Finnegan I am crying reading this. I know you tried everything for him, but there comes a time when peace and freedom from suffering is the best gift we can give our dogs. My thoughts are with you. Karen
Re: Finnegan Thank you every one for your posts and support. Obit half written amidst many :'( quite a cathartic process. It's the strangest things that catch you unawares and gulping at the empty space. He was only two and a half and although he'd been fighting IBS for a while we weren't ready for him to go quite yet so it's taking a fair bit of getting used to, I'm sure you can imagine. Thanks again. Kerryn
Re: Finnegan I finished Finnegan's obit. It's rather long considering he wasn't three yet, big dog, big story. Anyway, find out more about our beautiful boy here: http://black-labrador.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/epilogue-finnegan-our-goonish-boy-27310.html
Re: Finnegan A short life, but a big dog - and obviously a HUGE character! He must have left a large wolfhound-shaped hole in your hearts.
Re: Finnegan So sorry. How old was he. Tribute very movng and so many similarities hit the mark with me.
Re: Finnegan Hello all. In answer to your question David, he was only two and a half, far too short a life. But we have had a diagnosis. It was dysautonomia which is a canine form of grass sickness in horses, it's very rare and hard to diagnose, plus it's only been known in dogs for 10-15years, but it is more common in rural dogs. It's fatal in 99% of cases which in a funny way is comforting. Kerryn Ps sorry for delay in replying, my Mum broke her pelvis on Saturday so I've been slightly otherwise engaged!
Re: Finnegan Oh my goodness you HAVE had a tough time recently! Gute Besserung to your mother. And hang in there, you...
