    Hi all,

I posted a few days ago about a rescue Labrador I was going to meet. Well we met, fell in love and brought him home. He is a cross of some kind, who cares? He did have a bit of upset tummy last night apparently, he's been sick twice since we brought him home, and can't seem to drink enough water, 3 bowls full up to now. Am I doing right to leave the bowl empty for half an hour before I put another inch in? Also have given him a couple of spoons of rice and chicken, will keep him on that for a few days.
(Cant work out how to post a photo yet, techno challenged!!! I know I will get some great advice from you wonderful people, thanks.

Hello, glad you have your dog home safe and sound!

I never restrict water, it's always freely available - I'd stop a dog going back to heavy exercise after drinking a huge amount, but even during training I offer water (so my dog drinks little bits all the time). Maybe your dog is just thirsty from being sick? I'd let him have as much water as he wants. If he continues to drink excessively, get him checked by a vet.

It could just be stress related, he's probably very unsettled at the moment. Give him a couple of days to see if it settles down and if not or he gets worse then a trip to the vet to be checked out.

I never restrict water either. I would just make sure it's fresh and offer small amounts of chicken and rice, or fish and rice, as you have. Look forward to seeing some photos :)

Great news Lin so happy it all worked out for you and welcome Finn :) I definitely leave water out 24/7 for my dogs and refresh it regularly. Maybe he was car sick. Let us know how he is. x

P.S. When we brought Charlie home he virtually dived into the water bowl and did so for a few days, it could have been stress related. See how Finn gets on. Will you be taking him to the vet for a check up anyway? x

Thanks so much for your advice, I have filled the bowl. He's so gentle I'm sure we'll be fine, he must wonder what on earth has happened, and who the wotsit are these people?!! Thanks again.

Glad to hear that Finn is now with you. He's probably going to take a few days to settle down and feel more relaxed. Meanwhile, keep an eye on him and don't restrict his water supply. Don't forget to sort out the photo-posting!

    Awwww, welcome Finn :)

Scrambled egg is also good for upset tummies - some probiotic like Yumpro would help too.

Welcome Finn, I've never restricted water. If he doesn't settle in a few days I'd just check with the vet on water consumption just to put your mind at rest. Looking forward to some photos :)

A big welcome to Finn from me & my 2 rescues, Belle & Coco. He will soon settle in his new home - ours didn't take long. Our previous rescue, Scooby, maybe took a week or two to settle in.

We have now had Finn for a month. Tummy has settled (after antibiotics from vet), we go for 2 short and 1 long walks a day, he's great off lead and loves everybody and everything except cats, and we can live with that! Anyone have any tips on how to calm him down when visitors come? He gets so excited and actually split the end of his tail, resulting in the hall looking like a murder scene! There is a callous/scar on it, so it is an old problem. I love my dog!
