Re: Fireworks currently imagining Cuillin getting into a Chairlift....hmmmm......Brodick yes, probably with great gusto as he could get a good view of the rabbit formation on the ground from that height, but Cuillin......brave Poppy!
Re: Fireworks Wow about the chair lift! Obi could not be trusted to sit still on a chair lift... Hope you make it onto the ferry, Julie, with the Power of Chicken
Re: Fireworks Wow to all of you and all the things you have done with pups, I didn't know about any of this when I got Hattie, but thankfully I will know for future pups Helen x
Re: Fireworks I'm with Charlie on the scary ferry fear. If anyone from "up Norf" remembers the old Ballachullish Ferry, then they may recall the drive down to it, and on a fast flowing river day the chain link ferry being some way down stream from the line linking Point A (departure point) and Point B (arrival point). I had nightmares about the chain link breaking and being swept to my certain death downstream. To be fair, I was under 10yr old at the time. But you might imagine my delight when as a teenager my parents moved to Torpoint, and just about everywhere we went involved a crossing to Plymouth on the Torpoint Ferry :-\ . I loved it (not). Interestingly, when we moved there, the fare across (with a car I am sure) was 20p, and I think the new 20p coins were quite new and known as "Ferry Tokens". You have to say that with a Cornish accent though ;D I still think of 20ps as ferry tokens. ;D Nostalgia...... jac
Re: Fireworks Right....fireworks Monday night. I think we are as ready as we'll ever be. Do you think he has to stay awake for the firework CD to be effective? ;D ;D You can't really appreciate the volume on the vid, but it was just below neighbour complaining level....he just snored through it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/97932779@N08/9524711394/ Although, it never really alarmed him even at first, I don't think, he was just alert and interested and trotted round the room trying to work out where the funny noises were coming from.
Re: Fireworks I'm sure he'll be fine Julie. Sounds like a pretty calm sort of chap when it comes to noises.
Re: Fireworks Julie,Chris is still chuckling about your Charlie's firework therapy and his reaction to it......don't think you have anything to worry about! X
Re: Fireworks Hope so! I love fireworks - really, really love them. I've been known to watch them in thick fog (turns the fog shades of red etc. but they do lose the impact...) So was (is! for real test not yet done) really important Charlie wasn't a total pain during fireworks. And if I could ever get him in the garden with us when we watch them (as Rachael managed), that would be amazing. The CD continues to thunderstorms, transport, building works, things being dropped on roofs, marching bands.... I have to say, the building works was worth playing, he did jump a bit at that one at first but not now. He has to watch a marching band on Tuesday, so that's handy... CD was tip top forum tip!
Re: Fireworks julie . jasper as never heard the c d...never prepared him for fireworks, last week one of my neighbours had a b/day party, fireworks was going off, jasper was fine with them.....when we had thunder jasper was scared but he soon got over it charlie will be fine
Re: Fireworks Thanks Lynne - some dogs are fine, some not. I want to make sure Charlie will be fine, before I find out otherwise, so well worth the effort I think.
Re: Fireworks I'm sure he will cruise through the fireworks, with all the work you have done The annual fireworks we took our boy Nicolae to were the Australia Day fireworks (26th Jan). It was always a pretty lengthy display. They also used to fly a fighter jet over at low height. Our dog never even looked up or blinked an eye. We did keep the treats coming to reinforce his calm reaction and to continue to associate good stuff with loud noise.
Re: Fireworks our last girl Remy was so good with fireworks it became a problem as she would insist on going out in the garden if she saw fireworks cos she wanted to retrieve the falling (extremely hot!) debris. One of the current two (Tarkie) hates fireworks, Lochan doesn't turn a hair so yes, all different reactions from different dogs brought up the same way.
Re: Fireworks Yay! Yay! Yay! So I started his CD 5 mins before the fireworks. We had been outside - and he had been an ANGEL on his mat while we had a glass of wine, but we came into the house for the fireworks. Gave him one kibble ever 30 secs for calm as usual. Then the real fireworks started, and they were quieter than the CD. So I faded out the CD, and we had real fireworks - not a bother on him. I had a bit of chicken, and we opened the big window and he came to see whether he could do something sit/down/roll over that might get him chicken. So we did some clicker training with the window open, which really was no more than 90cm from being sat outside on the patio watching the fireworks... Yay! Yay! I feel confident enough to have him watch the second set of fireworks outside on Saturday night. Thanks for all the support and tips - CDs and balloons - you are all fab!
Re: Fireworks That's wonderful! Well done to you and Charlie!!! I also think, as Lochan says, that it helps to have a dog that is by nature unfussed about noise. You've done a great job of reinforcing and building on his relaxed attitude
Re: Fireworks Thanks! It does look like he would have been fine anyway, but it was important to me that he was good with fireworks. So, great, maybe I'll have a dog that is fine with being at a firework display - whatever the reason, preparation or just good luck, it's good news!
Re: Fireworks Amazing Julie, what a great boy Charlie is, very well done you did so much preparation and it clearly paid off. Helen x
Re: Fireworks Ah that's great news, you deserved a good night and success because you had out a lot of thought and planning in.....clicker training through the window....you rock! X
