Re: Fireworks Thanks for the welcome Dexter It appears I can't send private messages, so I'll reply here. Chip was bought as a pressie for a 3 year old little girl as a pup and soon got too big for them so was crated most of the time. He was sold at 6 months to a couple who already had a black lab & thought he'd make a great play mate as their other dog was quite bouncy and full of energy. Unfortunately though, Chip isn't like that. He's a very calm and polite dog...perhaps from his first home had learnt not to be in the way or make noise Therefore his new 'playmate' bullied rather than played and in the end they had to be kept apart. He'd stopped eating, hardly slept as he was fearful and got gastro so dropped a lot of weight. However, he's now got his forever home with me, we're up to 27.3 kilo's and he's getting more sociable (although still panics & flees when a boisterous dog strikes). He's my best friend and I can't believe how lucky I am to have found him.
Re: Fireworks Oh a story like that gives me the weeps.....but it's ended happily now that Chip is with you.....what a roller coaster he has had......you were meant to find him and help him and he is obviously responding to your devoted care.you must feel so protective of him and situations in the park like the other day must really make you mad.Did he seem ok afterwards?you sound great for his confidence,I LOVE that you say he's your best friend,he's a very lucky boy he is going to have an amazing life now with you x
Re: Fireworks So glad he found you, Missy. Just shows what a lottery it is from a dog's perspective where they get no say in who takes them and then what subsequently happens, but this story has a happy ending.

But then there are the happy endings, like this one. And thank goodness for them.
Re: Fireworks Aww thanks guys, I'm doing my best! He was a bit shook up after our incident, but I've returned there a couple of times & tried to be confident. I'm a believer in the 'back in the saddle' approach, I don't want him to loose the confidence he's picking up (or for it to get too much, fine balance is good ). He gave that patch a wide berth but I threw a ball right through it & it seemed to distract him. Going again after work today, just avoiding the same time of day in case the mad dog is lurking!
Re: Fireworks Hi Kate, I think Chip has fallen on all 4 square paws with you Not caught up with your story yet about the other dog. Just a bit shocked that someone thinks a puppy is a good present for a 3 year old. Think we did good to hold off to 11 : Welcome to the forum if I haven't said so before! jac
