How long do female labs bleed in season? Mine went into first heat on 9th of feb and continues to bleed. Today is 18th day of bleeding. Is this normal? Thanks.

The usual is around 7-10 days I think, but my girl bled for 3 weeks with her season. My vets said it was abnormally long. It might be worth getting her checked by the vet just to be on the safe side.

I would say that anything up to 3 weeks isn't abnormal. (I've had two bitches have two seasons each.)

I found this on a website which may help

"An unspayed female dog can usually be expected to come into heat twice yearly, it normally lasts three weeks. Unfortunately nature does not do usually. When it comes to seasons you cannot class all dogs alike.

Some seasons can vary in length from two to four weeks. The average three weeks. Always calculate it as four weeks if you are unsure, or you could be very unhappy with the outcome.

Some females only have one season a year, and others can have three. Nothing is set in stone when it comes to a dogs season."

If you are worried have a chat with your vet who will be happy to check your dog.

Our first lab was a female who had her heat 3 times a year and lasted approximately 3 to 4 weeks. She was bleeding excessively during that period. That is why we had her spayed! Also the neighboring lab (a male) was off his food that period of time!

My little girl lost blood for over 3 weeks , I didn't deem her to be safe for over 4 weeks . They do all differ but have a chat with your Vet if you are worried .

If it's any consolation, Bramble finished her first season just over 2 weeks ago. It lasted approx 6 weeks, from when I first noticed spotting to the end. I think she has what is called a "split season" meaning she started her season, then seemed to stop, then started again and was bleeding for 3 weeks. We all got a bit fed up by the end of it!
