Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Thank you everyone, I hope Hattie keeps up the good work as she is going to have to set a good example to Charlie at some point ;D x
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Sounds like Hattie is a natural Helen. That was a brilliant stop whistle I'm not surprised you nearly gave her the whole treat bag she deserved it. ;D
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Helen that's brilliant, gives me hope that I might just get it with Dexter if he spends time in England when he's older........there are going to he so many new and wondrous sights to smell and behold!Ill be going many steps back and he'll be a lot older.Isnt Hattie a clever girl ,well done to you both x
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey I am quite proud to be able to write on this thread again. Shooting season is in full flow where I live and Pheasants are plentiful. This morning on our walk Hattie flushed a very large Pheasant and it flew so close to me I could nearly touch it , I blew my stop whistle and one Labradoodle Hattie stopped but unfortunately as she was at such close quarters to me decided to come back and sit infront of me for some strange reason which she doesn't normally do, but I think I am happy with that because she didn't pursue the Pheasant :-\ xx
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Dogs often do confuse the stop whistle with the recall whistle. But the main thing is, she didnt chase the pheasant! Good girl Hattie!
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Better she came and sat in front of you than faced the other way and chased the pheasant ;D I would say it was a great success.
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Great that she came to you rather than chase the pheasant I would be really pleased with that
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Well done Hattie. ;D You should definitely be happy with that Helen its fantastic with it being so close. ;D
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Gosh Helen that's brilliant I'd be happy for Dexter to stop and stand on his head as long as he would stop.....he wouldn't if he'd have flushed a pheasant ....you did great, bet it gave you a shock as it flew by!
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Helen - Hattie sounds like she is doing brilliantly I have been really working on the stop whistle with my two Ruby (lab) 6.5 yrs and Bella (wcs) 3 yrs and they are doing well, until Bella puts up a pheasant or they spot a rabbit How long did it take Hattie to learn to respond to the stop whistle in these situations ? I am happy to keep working on it but no point blowing at the moment if they are going to ignore it!! Thanks Chloe
Re: First STOP Whistle with Prey Thank you Chloe, I am pretty proud of Hattie as she is a Labradoodle of 7 years young, she is still super quick and picks training up really quickly. I have been working on the recall and stop whistle with her for about 16 months but luckily for me Hattie is a real food driven dog and she would pretty much do anything for a crumb : I think she had her first success earlier this year when I stopped her chasing a Pheasant and recalled her immediately. So far if my timing is absolutely spot on, I have stopped her chasing Deer, Hares, Rabbits Pheasants and other game birds, she is not perfect and we are still working hard Every day I practice close stops increasing them to quite long distance stops and I vary my treats with the result I get, also if I see an opportunity to test her with prey with a very good chance of success I take it. You will get there Chloe it's just practice every day x
