And now he goes in himself when we get to the jetty during morning walk. I didn't trust myself throwing the ball too far, but will tomorrow.
Our previous lab, Solstice had fallen into the canal 7 times by the time she was 6 months, which as we had her from 2 months meant 7 times in 4 months.Barley, the one before her was walked in exactly the same places and never once fell in, in 9 years. Joy fell in 4 times in 4 months but seems to have learned to be more careful now. But yes, that feeling when they first swim deliberately is wonderful! I always laugh and cheer and jump up and down and clap my hands, shouting 'YES!YES! GOOD GIRL! BRAVE GIRL! CLEVER GIRL!' repeatedly. Sometimes there are other dog owners who get it, but others clearly think I've totally lost it. Ha! What's the point of having a dog if you can't jump for joy with it from time to time? Little Joy, who might need to be re-named Deep Joy, often makes me jump for Joy!
In the first video above it was our next door neighbours dog Millie that led Jax into the water, now he is doing the same. This guy I met on a walk had been unable to get his dog into the water, same as me, but [although I wasn't quick enough with phone to get the swim] now Jax is leading others into the loch. Can't keep him out now - wherever we go - next stop the beach to see if he will go in the sea.
