We are taking Jack & Barney to the seaside for the first time tomorrow, and i can't wait. They love water, so I'm sure they will love the sea. We're going to a place called Fraisthorpe near Bridlington, apparently it's a lovely long (approx 3 miles!) dog friendly beach that is so big that it never gets busy even in the height of Summer. So fingers crossed it's like that tomorrow, though some nice friendly dogs would be good for socialisation ;D We have bought a huge waterproof backed picnic blanket so we can settle them for a rest afterwards while we have fish and chips.....well that's the plan lol. Will post pics tomorrow Lou x
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow How exciting! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful day Sometimes dogs find salty, moving water a bit scary, so I'm sure you'll let them explore at their own pace Would love to see pics of their first day at the beach!!
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow Thanks Rachael. They were a bit hesitant when we took them to a local lake, that lapped at the edge and they wouldn't go near it, until a huge golden retriever went splashing past, and they decided they needed to show off to him and went bounding in ;D
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow Haha ;D Are you planning on going in for a swim? That might encourage them. Or maybe they will just bound right in with no encouragement needed at all I bet they will love racing around on the beach too. Have a wonderful day!
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow Wow that sounds like so much fun. Rolo is 13 weeks old when do I start introducing him to swimming ? My 10 year old daughter seems to have some great anxieties in letting Rolo swim. Have a great time
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow
is 13 weeks old when do I start introducing him to swimming ?
http://www.thelabradorsite.com/my-labrador-wont-swim/ Puddles are enough for a 13 week old. Don't rush it. It's such a joy (and fantastic exercise) if they are confident swimmers, it's not worth rushing and getting it wrong. Charlie started swimming properly at about 6 months - and I thought it was taking ages! : Now, he'll crash into big waves in the sea and loves his swimming.
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow Your sure to have a brilliant time we go every other day weather permitting and Lemmy goes mad and loves it bum down running and hole digging are fave games on beach. Can't wait to see pictures.
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow Fraisthorpe is a lovely beach! I grew up near there and it was always my favourite for taking the dogs. Hope you have a lovely play time. I'm looking forward to taking Inca to some of the beaches up here soon. It will blow her mind!
Re: First trip to the beach tomorrow How exciting! Be prepared for D&V if they drink the water though . Its a great purgative! Seriously.....watch they don't start drinking it.....can make them very sick. Sounds like you have a great trip planned. Hope the weather is ok. Remember and sbare your chippie ;D
