David took Charlie for a very long walk today proofing him on another of our walks and on the way back he put Charlie in a sit at a stile climbed over into the paddock walked away. Not such a big deal you might be saying to yourself, it is to us as there was an enormous field behind Charlie and he could have legged it but he DID NOT
he waited for David to whistle recall him. This is a big step for us as Charlie was focused :) :) :) :) :) As his reward he had a lovely run around in the paddock retrieving tennis balls and didn't try to escape under the stile either. Needless to say he got a lovely meaty bone on his return… Dare I even allow myself to think we could be getting there ???

I think you'll find if you go back and read some of your posts over the time you've been on this forum you'll see just how very, very far you and Charlie have come. You've inspired many people with your perseverance and constant training efforts! :)

Thank you Barbara :), but the credit has to go to David as he walks Charlie and practises retrieving, I do his 1:1 stop whistle, retrieving, clicker heel work etc. Team work is how we are getting there :)

    Thats brilliant news.

I am not brave enough to let barley off in any area that is not enclosed any more, he has run off too many times. i used to be brave, but not any more.

You are making great progress with charlie, it is great news to hear :)

Thanks Annabelle, Charlie is still on a 30 mtr rope for training, David had him on a short lead and just dropped the lead whilst he was in a sit. :)

Well done charlie brilliant. I wouldn't dare with mine they would definitely have legged it around the field.

That's going to be my next challenge working on recall. I'm putting it off by using the weather as an excuse. Our fields are terrible at the moment. See excuses. ;)

Not sure I can bring myself to do it though. I'll start with Scott his recall is better and he stays with me more. It's just scary. ???

    Advice please Helen. :D

Jen, 150 ft of rope and practise recall EVERY single day, when Charlie is on his way back after retrieving we blow the recall whistle so as to constantly remind him of what we want and of course jackpot delicious treats never go a miss :). Charlie is not off lead ever now but watch this space ;)
