Hi All, I have a 6 month old lab puppy, who like all, loves her food! We've had her on skinners lamb & rice since we got her and she's been fine on it. Now she's coming to 6 months should she stay on this puppy food or move to something else? She has quite a sensitive stomach so I'd be keen to know what other owners feed their young ones and if anyone has any advice on this? She's currently on three meals a day still and growth is all good. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Justine
Skinners advise moving to their Junior range at 6 months until 18 months, and then switch to adult. If she's happy on the Skinners, then I'd stick with it. I still feed my two adults three meals a day and they're two and a half years - it suits all of us. You don't need to reduce to two if you don't want to.
If your puppy is happy and growing well with Skinners stick with it. As @snowbunny says you may want to move to the Junior range but make the change over at least a week gradually reducing the puppy food and adding more of the Junior and you will have to adjust how much you feed to keep your puppy nice and trim. With puppy with a sensitive tummy I would introduce the Junior food more slowly to reduce the possibility of any reaction. I feed 2 meals a day and have since around 5 months and give a chew at lunch time - which is calculated into her daily food allowance.
Agree with both above advice , Sam is now five years old and still has a small lunch ( he has Skinners duck and rice ), he was mortified when I tried to cut lunch out so I just reduced his breakfast and supper to allow for it , whatever suits x
...and we're also on 3 meals - Coco has a small supper (split from his evening meal) - (Skinners duck & rice too) - it's a legacy from Belle who had to have a small bite to eat before bed to keep her stomach acid at bay.
Yes we stick to 3 meals a day too, have done for years. Lucan was bought up on Skinners puppy, we swapped to the junior at about 5mths with no problems.
