My 10 week old pups vulva is apparently covered by too much skin and the vet says as she grows it may pop out, or she could need surgery, but we need to clean her with baby wipes a couple of times a day to keep her from getting UTI 's, which she currently has. Has anyone else experienced this? Just curious if it usually comes out as they grow into their loose skin.
Hi and welcome to the forum It sounds like an inverted vulva. Vanilla has this. Our vet at the time was very good as we had plenty of UTI's and when the second one arrived shortly after the first one had cleared, she did some research. One of the recomendation is to use baby wipes after each wee. You do have to get into the fold though to assist and minimise the reoccurring of a UTI and to help ease the itching and licking that the poor girl will do. One thing that can help is to allow the to go through a season. This can 'pop' the vulva out. We where going to allow Vanilla to go through a season anyway. This did help (did not fully pop out but better than what it was) and now we are using the baby wipes just once each night but also have a cream from the Vet that we put to assist the itching and overlicking that can occur. This gets applied just before a walk to settle and rub in fully. (Will get the name once I get home). This really helps her in the warmer months and we now have not had a UTI for over 8months. Vanilla is now 17months. Hope this helps
