This is a pretty weird one, but my 8 month old lab literally developed a big gobble under his chin overnight. Yesterday he looked normal - some loose skin but just the normal amount for a pup, and today he has a large piece of skin hanging down under his neck, to the point when you put his collar on it looks quite odd as it sort of cuts it in half. The only thing this has coincided with is we took him to a big dog park yesterday, and he seems to have come home with a flea. He is scratching a lot, and seems irritated. It is sunday evening here in NZ so there are no vets open so I can buy a flea treatment, but I will do so tomorrow.
Its more the under neck gobble which is worrying me....is this somehow just come on overnight because he is about to have a big growth spurt?

It does sound like your dog has been bitten by something that is causing irritation, and visual swelling. I think a vet visit would be a good idea, as your dog does sound uncomfortable. I would be concerned at any swelling around that area. If there are any other symptoms coughing, panting for example, I would take straight to an emergency vet. Whilst the area looks different, I would also avoid using a collar in case it increases irritation around the neck area.

Ok thanks for that, he isnĀ“t coughing or panting, and there is no visual disturbance. He just seems to be scratching a lot, though he has dropped off to sleep by the heater now. I have taken his collar off now, and I will take him to the vet at 7.30 tomorrow morning, or in the night if any of these symptoms you mentioned developed. Thanks so much for your prompt response
