I was wondering when doggies start going grey in the muzzle? Over the past month the Pig has grown definite white muzzle hairs, and I was surprised as she is only two and a half! I know it must show up more in black dogs, but is the Pig going prematurely grey?

Ella's going grey on her chin and she'll be 3 in April. When I visited her breeder I noticed that her mum had a grey chin but her grandma didn't. I think it varies from dog to dog.

I think Sky who is a black Lab was about 7 when her muzzle started going grey - it’s white now at 10 years old and she has some white/grey hairs on her tummy and back legs :).

Willow has grey hairs on her chin which started to appear before she was three.

Our previous lab BJ started getting grey muzzled at 2. He was one of those black labs that had a small white strip on his chest and apparently it happens early to them. Fascinating genetics stuff explains it but its all too complicated for my slightly feeble aged brain to get round :D

Charlie started going grey around 3 years old. At 6 years old he is looking very distinguished :) x

Brogan (Rottie) started going grey at 3-4 years. I was devastated at first ("My baby's getting OOOOLD!!") but in fact I learned to find it really adorable and love a bit of grey on other dogs, especially the black Labs. It gives them that extra bit of zip!

Oh good, thanks everyone. It seems like 2.5 years old isn’t outlandishly early to start looking a bit ‘wise’ round the muzzle area. She has a white star on her chest and a white chin anyway, on account of her having Pointer Pants, but she is getting white on her jowly muzzle-flaps now. It’s quite cute (now I know it isn’t a sign of some weird accelerated aging disease!).

Unfortunately it's only us that get the accelerated aging from our dogs:D
