We are going to France later this year and Fred's got his doggie passport. We will take him to our vet here a week before we go, to check he still has his chip. We have
booked a vet in France to give him his tablet before he comes home. Have you taken your dog to France? Is there anything we should know and any helpful tips would be great. Thanks :D

A few people here have made this trip so I'm sure you'll get some good advice soon :)

So you've indicated that you want to be notified when someone posts in this thread but you're not getting emails? Hmm...could be a big with the new forum (as you probably know we have recently shifted to a whole new forum set up and there are a few things left to tweak). I'll put a post about in the 'report bugs here' thread :)

Thanks Oberon. I think I will reset all my boxes and see if that does the trick.

Hi Cath, I live in France so happy to answer any questions you have. Whereabouts are you going in France? Travelling in France with a dog is quite easy as all main routes have rest areas (Aires) which either have full facilities (café/restaurant, fuel etc.) usually with a picnic area or alternatively just a picnic area but usually will have toilets. I would make sure that I had plenty of water for doggie drinking. Other main tip would be to make sure you bring enough of Fred's food to see him through the holiday. Choice of food in France is limited and is largely restricted to what supermarkets stock. Pet stores are still a rarity in France so come prepared with food, treats etc.

Although not required for entry into France I would recommend that you treat Fred with something like Advantix prior to the holiday to try and avoid the dreaded ticks. Apart from that it's now only worming for return to the UK which must be more than 24hrs prior to your return but within 5 days. Make sure that the French vet signs, dates and enters the time on the passport.

As I said anything else you would like to know, you know where we are ;)

Hi Cath , I brought my four dogs and one cat back home to the UK after living in France for ten years, on their Pet Passports ,but this was a few years ago now and things have become easier now, if you look at DEFRA website, it will tell you all you need to know . Ours gang were all fine , we had an overnight crossing from Roscoff to Plymouth , took them for a long run and they just settled down to sleep in the car , good luck :)

Hi, Thanks for your replies. We are staying at Chavasse Farm situated in the village of Hardecourt aux Bois (Somme Battlefields). We were thinking of taking Fred's food.
Fred is normally treated with Advocate. I will need to find out if this will covers ticks! A French friend of our has already rang the local vet and Fred is book in the 48 hours before we come home.
We are going by Euro tunnel. The OM and me went last year, very fast. First time for Fred, but knowing him he will sleep through it all.
Great information about travelling in France. DEFRA has been read many times
;)
We are going by Euro

Hi Cath, sorry I didn't see this post at the time - I was currently in the UK with my two so could have set your mind at rest as to how easy it all was.

I'm glad you had a good time. How was Fred in the car?

Really pleased to hear that you had a lovely holiday in France, where it's currently pouring with rain :(, with Fred.

Fred was great. I was really pleased with him, he was so good while we were there. He had a great time in the market at Etretat, one stall holder gave him a piece of ham. The passport thing was really easy and I would never worry about doing it again. He slept all the way there and all the way back! We will be going again next year and will stay at the same place. Thank you both for your information about France, it was such a help. :D
