Our old dog Belle used to pinch grapes. She also ate a whole christmas cake once - no effect. I did not know about grape toxicity at the time. We are much more careful now.
Hi all just to let you know I've spoken to the vets this morning and thankfully Charlie is going to be ok. He had a good night, he's eaten breakfast and is lively and alert this morning. They want to keep him in for another 24 hrs to keep him on fluids and also do another urnine and blood test but hopefully all being well we can bring him home tomorrow. I hardly slept last night I was so worried but am really relieved and happy this morning. Thank you for all your messages of support, it's really nice to know there is somewhere we can all turn to for help when things go wrong xxx
So glad to hear all is well. WE fed grapes too. When visiting my Aunt's nursing home we would take a small bunch and the other residents would get such a kick out of giving them to Jet. The information that grapes were bad for dogs wasn't out yet and there was even Dr. Pitcairn's book on home recipes for dogs which included grapes in some meals.
Great news! I'm sure my dogs have had grapes, Christmas cake, mince pies, etc in the past when we didn't know about the toxicity. It's a worry, though, when they get hold of things they shouldn't.
Such good news your boy is fine! Charlie, as a puppy, scoffed loads of grapes in the garden before I learned they 'were bad'. He suffered no ill effects. I still cut down all the grape vines!
Yeah, same here, we had two big grape vines and last year we got rid of them... The 'dog factor' was part of the reason.
Back before we knew that grapes were bad, our first lab Ginger used to eat them off the vine in our neighborhood. She never got a lot of them though.

Glad to hear your boy is ok. It's funny - we had a huge crop of grapes this year, and Simba didn't touch them. We have them all fenced off but previous years he managed to get at them here and there, but this year he's left them alone. I guess he grew out of grape-stealing. Which is a relief!
