Saturday i had my first walk with barley since getting back from the peak district.

Armed with long line, butchers bacon offcuts, whistle and clicker off we went to the park.

He was an absolute star, not only did he sit at every curb without being asked, he also came back ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now i had given up hope on him ever having a recall, but at the moment there seems a slight glimmer of hope that one day we might actually be able to have a normal ish dog with at least part of a recall.

Long line was attached to him but dropped so it trailed along behind him. Started with a set up recall, him stay me walk away call him and him get piece of bacon, he gallops towards me like he has been starved for weeks. Things look promising.

There were a few other dogs on the park and some people, not as quite as i would have liked it to have been, but nonetheless he still came back when called.

His recalls were not lightening speed, and far from perfect but its a start. I whistled when he was on his way back to me every time, even if it was not a recall, every contact he made with me was rewarded with a piece of bacon.

The last recall was the best, i was jumping the gun by a long way but whistled him, when he heard the whistle he stopped what he was doing looked at me then started to walk over to me, limping sadly so more rest has been prescribed. i am over the moon with this ;D ;D ;D ;D

He has come so far, with still a long way to go in areas, every little breakthrough and triumph is amazing, Even though this 15 min trot round the park has ended in him limping and on rest again. It shows that he can do it, and one day we will trust him enough to let him roam around other places (still tethered to the long line as he is unpredictable, only have to get within 100ft of him to catch him)
