I ordered two Allsafe harnesses to ensure the pups were safe on the way back to the UK. I had to have them delivered to my sister because they wouldn't deliver here. No problem, she posted them on to me. A month ago. They still haven't arrived, so I can only assume they've been lost in transit. She didn't send them tracked or signed-for (I should have asked), so there's no way of finding them. So that's a hundred quid I'm down, and I now have to find a solution to get the dogs safely to England. I've ordered two more Allsafe ones, which will be waiting for me when I get to England, but I think I'm just going to have to buy a cheaper alternative from here for the initial drive. I know people travel with their dogs without any type of restraint day in, day out without incident, but it doesn't bear thinking about if something happens. Luckily, we're driving overnight in that direction and there's so little traffic on the roads, we're less likely to have an incident. It just doesn't sit very well with me.

Annoying. Although, it took me forever for Charlie to be ok in his Allsafe (and now I don't use it at all anyway, as he is always in his crate - we've sold the car we used to use it in). To be honest, unless the Allsafe is fitted exactly as instructed, which trusses up the dog pretty tightly (hence Charlie hating it), you lose a lot of the advantages of it - and so I found it a little impractical for long journeys anyway.

Sorry to hear of your delivery problems, I know how frustrating it can be! I've had to go to my credit card company and lodge a dispute with a supplier for non-delivery of a new orthopaedic mattress for Juno which they claim they have delivered with a signature. Looks as if I'll have to wait until we're back in the UK before she gets a nice orthopaedic mattress.

    Oh no, how annoying!

Obi is fine wearing the Allsafe and it definitely doesn't need to be on tight for it to fit and stay on. Out of all the crash tested harnesses (that have passed testing) it's the most comfortable and least restrictive. We've used it for 7-8 hour trips without a problem (Canberra to Melbourne).

Looks like we may have to do without. I bought two "universal" (except Volvo) clip-in attachments today when we were in France. They came with two ends. Neither fitted in our Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sigh. Or, since we were in France, "Le sigh".

Luckily, I got my money back immediately on these. The pups were good as gold settled on the back seat, but that's not really the point...

J is going to try to find a Jeep in the local scrap yard that he can nick the seatbelts from and fashion a device for now. We'll see. We have four working days before we leave.

Any shops with climbing or abseiling rope near you? Get a couple of lengths of rope, tie one end to the child seat anchor point up behind the seat, the the other end to a carabiner and clip that onto the harness.

Any shops? No. Every shop, yes :)

In fact, I have climbing rope and carabiners round here somewhere. Not that we do much climbing. The hubby's even somewhat terrified of new shoes because of the height of the unworn soles.... ;)
