Hi Its been well documented on here my trials and tribulations, with 8 month old Collie x Lab Poppy, My cousin has an 18month old Springer who was very bad off and on the lead she took him to a local Gundog trainer in our area and after 3 lessons he is a different dog, she says he is very very firm with the dogs he trains, i have spoken to him and he assures me he can get Poppy out of the lead tugging and biting thing max 2 lessons as much as i would love this im fearful as to what he will do,anybody have any ideas or thoughts please, thankyou

What does your friend mean by very, very firm? It sounds a bit ominous.....if you want a positive based approach you may be better off looking elsewhere.

Does he teach you how to train your dog or does he handle the dogs himself? If it's the latter I wouldn't be keen at all on top of which he may just teach poppy to behave for him.

It's your money and your dog if you go and you're unhappy with his methods at any stage then say you'd prefer a different approach.

Agree with Barbara. As a rule I never let anybody else handle my dogs. You might need a little bit more info from your cousin how the lessons are structured, or even better go along and watch a lesson. :)

I'd be a bit cautious about this... Max two lessons to 'cure' the tugging and lead sounds unlikely, as it would have to work for you and Poppy, not just for the trainer. I think I'd be inclined to ask to watch this person in action before I let them work with my dog... I agree with Heidrun and Barbara.

Thanks all, I have found out a bit more he will train me to train her on a one to one basisc although we do puppy classes they are quite manic and the dogs only settle down when its nearly time to finish....and it is my money so if i dont like something i can walk away.
