hi all. From last 2 days - we are seeing Hachi is a bit sad and withdrawn. He never played with toys a lot but he is not even playing with the few toys he loved chasing. The only time he feels excited is when he eats or when I come home after office. But it doesn't last long and he is back to being sad. We are not doing anything different. We have been a bit more strict on biting and not allowing him to bite much. We ignore him for a minute if he starts biting. Is that the reason? He doesn't look ill because his appetite as same, he is highly food motivated, he is not scratching or chewing much. But I have tried to initiate play in last 2 days but he just doesn't want to play. He is very silent (with 2 occasional growls in last 2 days). He had a zoomie as well yesterday. I can't see him withdrawn. He is just over 9 weeks. He is going to start a puppy socialization and kindergarten class tomorrow (he just had first round of shots but the class is indoors and disinfected from distemper and parvo). I hope that helps him. I thought he was getting very comfortable in his new home when suddenly he feels withdrawn. I am by his side now and I gave my hand to him to bite today (because I thought may be he is missing that). He did bite me (not hard) but he still did not get over excited. He loves us - because he still wants to be with us all the time but he just comes and lies down at the feet or if we are sitting down, he comes and sleeps in our lap.
He is still a very young puppy and they sleep upto 16 hours a day. Short periods of play time and poop they knock out. Assuming you took this pup home at 8 weeks old, you've only had him for a week. He is still getting accustomed to your home and forming a bond with you. Like the Dos Equis guy, make the yourself "The most interesting person in the world." Come up with new games and make it fun for him.
