I have read a few threads that talk about hand feeding. As I am new to Labrador ownership (puppy is 8 weeks) could someone explains what hand feeding achieves as I can't find a thread that actually explains why you would. Thank you
Re: Hand Feeding Hi Jackie, I don't hand feed myself but this is from a thread where I think Heidrun has introduced it as an idea to help Helen get Charlies focus on her: and here's the link to the video Heidrun posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E-l3wSZDz0 Hopefully it all makes sense out of context but the original thread is this one: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/forums/index.php/topic,1355.0.html and the talk of hand feeding starts on page 4
Re: Hand Feeding BTW not trying to take any credit for the answer as it's all come from Heidrun and her beautiful and slightly crazy spaniels ;D Just thought I'd look it out for you as I had a minute......
Re: Hand Feeding Thanks for digging that out, Barbara. Jackie, hand feeding is something I did with my cocker Murffi. He is a rescue dog and was about 14 months old when I got him. Hand feeding is an excellent way of bonding with a dog and getting the dog to work for food rewards. ;D It simply means that the dog doesn't get any food served up in a bowl but everything comes from the handler's hand as rewards during short training sessions spread over the day. It is not something I have done with dogs that I have had from puppy age.
