Choice does not necessarily result in fun. Recently I had to go to a floor tile shop in search of tiles for our ensuite that was flooded in a recent storm. I was presented with many, many different alternatives. I did find the experience to be informative. I did make a choice. I will be rewarded when I finally have a renovated ensuite. I did not find, however, the experience of choosing this tile over that tile to be fun.
Yes, I see your point . Actually I would replace the word "fun" with "motivation". Play motivates my dog Benson enough to respond to a cue, being backed by a really strong reinforcement history of having a fun game! A simple recall cue with whistle, is paired with a strong reinforcement history of high food rewards for Bramble. Food motivates Bramble. I prefer simple cues for recall, as I need them to be as powerful as possible.
