Hey I was wondering if anybody has ever used a body harness instead of just a collar. Is it effective in controlling pulling when meeting other dogs? And less prone to neck or throat injuries with a neck collar? Your thoughts Thanks
I use a harness as my dog was collar reactive when we first got him at 8 months old. I love it! I'm not sure that it works any better or worse than a regular collar for controlling pulling but it certainly avoids neck/throat injuries.
Yes, if you have a dog that pulls, a harness is far kinder and prevents throat injuries. You still have to train your dog not to pull, though.
Yes. My dog pulls (a lot less now). He will definitely pull if we meet another dog. For this reason, he wears a harness. I don't want any throat/neck injuries. The harness cannot prevent pulling. That is done with training.
As others have said a harness won't stop pulling - only training can do that, it is justhat kinder on the neck and throat
Charlie wears a harness all the time because he can still pull or lunge if he sees a pheasant etc. so I don't want to hurt his neck but he does walk much better these days Hattie wears a flat collar and lead as she walks nicely. You still have to train a dog not to pull even on a harness, it is a tool to help x
Saba wears a harness when we're out, and a standard collar indoors. Once we've conquered walking nicely, he'll still wear a harness as I prefer them to the traditional collar and lead. At the moment, his harness is the safest option as he is abit of a lunger!
I just bought my puppy a "sensible harness by soft touch concepts" and it is amazing. He is pretty good on leash but only pulls if he sees a squirrel or a friendly dog across the path. This harness instantly corrected that behavior and he does not pull at all now. Hopefully this continues but now he pretty much just walks by my side like a good boy.
