I mentioned a few weeks ago I would be walking Harry the huge Labradoodle for two weeks, Hattie's absolute best friend as they have known each other since they were puppies and they are now 8 years old. Well they had a ball they really did, I needn't have worried about Harry not being able to do long distance walks as he had no trouble keeping up with Hattie for almost 2 hours every day, there was much butt tucking, running, playing and chasing it was so lovely to see Harry find his inner pup! Now not one to pass up on training opportunities I used Harry to strenghten Hattie's stop, long distance sit/stays, recall etc. with Harry as the distraction. Hattie and I would go round to pick Harry up in the morning where they always greeted each other with a kiss, so sweet and off we went. I got Hattie in lots of long distance 50 meter plus sit/stays whilst I walked Harry off lead up with me, Hattie stayed put then I recalled her. Sometimes Harry wondered what was going on and would go back to her sit in front of her, bless Hattie she wouldn't move and was peering round either side of him looking for my instructions She did lots of great stop whistles with Harry as a huge distraction and some great immediate recalls and Harry came along too. At the end of the two weeks Harry who doesn't get any training was sitting/waiting with Hattie and coming back to the whistle One morning we were joined by a good friend of mine and his Welsh Fox Terrier - Ted the three of them had a blast! As Harry only gets 30 minutes walk per day I am going to suggest to his owner that I pick him up once a week for a good walk with Hattie and I as I know they both would enjoy it so much. All in all a great two weeks. I am also pretty chuffed that I could walk Harry at 45 kilos and Hattie at 25 kilos both in one hand and I am only about 44 kilos. Thanks xxx
That's lovely Helen , especially so because Hattie seems to have taken Harry under her wing , being a good role model . A weekly walk would be lovely, for the three of you x
Well done Helen Sounds like they both had an absolute ball. I hope his owners allow you to walk him once a week as I think it would benefit both him and Hattie x
Sounds as if they had a fantastic time together and Harry gained hugely from Hattie's training. It would be great to have a weekly walk together for fun and training.
