Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Well done Hattie. You did very well. Lots of hugs from me and meg.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( I missed this yesterday Helen. Poor Hattie but she did very well today. My old lab got attacked by dogs I don't know how many times. Two very bad ones. He never ever in 15 years fought back or became nervous of other dogs. He was always pleased to see any type of dog. I bet Hattie has forgotten about it already. It's probably a more scary experience for us than them. :
Re: Hattie has been attacked AGAIN;( ;( ;( Morning all, I can't believe I am writing this post, but Hattie has just been attacked by Sid again :'( I didn't realise it was Sid as he was not with his owner, they were a little way in the distance, he came bombing towards us too late for me to do anything, he immediately attacked her, got her round the back of the neck dragged her to the floor and continued his attack Hattie was yelping but wouldn't ever fight back :'( I kicked and hit him tried to drag him off, in the meantime the local dog walker/sitter had caught up and got him on lead, full of apologies. I don't care for any more apologies that dog should be muzzled I can't find any injuries or blood on Hattie but it's pretty difficult with her coat so I will keep an eye on her. On our way home we saw a friendly flat coat that Hattie plays with and she swerved away from him so now I am thinking she might be frightened in the future. I gave her lots of treats as we passed him, both dogs were on lead so I hope that was the right thing to do :'( xxx
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Oh it is so infuriating when things like this happen, frightening and makes you very angry too. Also very odd, as most male dogs will do anything not to hurt a female. I don't think kicking and hitting helps in this situation, in my experience it only seems to spur them on unfortunately. I once grabbed a huge dog that had got Billy onto his back, and I nearly throttled it by its collar. I didnt care, the adrenaline was pumping so hard and I was determined to get him off my dog, but looking back I could easily have been badly bitten. I hope Hattie has not been hurt Helen, and that she is ok with other dogs. Maybe after a couple of days you can arrange to meet up with the friendly flat coat, to reassure her that not all dogs of that breed are a problem.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( What a horrible experience! Really unusual for a male to attack a female i have to say! And this dog really has to be muzzled!!!!! BEFORE something terrible happens! I'd go with Karens advice and arrange a meet up with a friendly dog Hattie likes to play with to give her some positive feelings with other dogs.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Karen I know I shouldn't have reacted the way I did but as this was the second attack I was just not going to have this again, infact he did stop and I yelled at him to "go away". Unfortunately I rarely see the friendly flatcoat and I'm not sure where they live but next time I do I will ask if we can join them on a walk. Thanks Karen xx Thanks Christoph, I know it is unusual for a male to attack a bitch but now this is two attacks in 3 months :'( The excuse I was given was "he doesn't know Hattie" xx
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( That's a rotten excuse, in fact there is no excuse, hugs for your lovely girl, and you too x
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;(
The excuse I was given was "he doesn't know Hattie" xx
Well thats no excuse at all and im quite shure i would have reacted the same way you did. I don't think you can react in a logical way with all that adrenalin pumping in a dangerous situation like that. It's like to tell a mum to not run in a burning house to save her children(well not quite but almoust ;D) Hugs from me and licks from Odin for your little girl
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Oh poor Hattie! Hugs for you both x Some friendly meetings as soon as you're both up for it would definitely be good and maybe drop a muzzle in to Sid's owners with a note saying you'll call the police/dog warden if he doesn't wear it!! There is no excuse for that kind of behaviour
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Another man in the village told me only minutes before this attack that his Labrador had been attacked round the face by a Mastiff which is normally walked by a boy under 10 years old, the mind boggles, he called the Police they said they couldn't do anything, so his wife called the Dog Warden and he said there was nothing they could do so his son went round to the owner and I don't know what happened Not really sure why we have such organisations that won't do anything to earn their money to protect us and our animals. I wonder what will happen when a child is attacked, they will be round on mass and shoot the dog most probably then it's all just too late. I hope not to see Sid too often as they have moved to the next village but the dog walker/sitter still looks after him. I will do that Barbara they might just get the message or maybe not : Going to ring my friend with the Doberman for a walk tomorrow and get things back on track for Hattie poor girl. I'm hoping her maturity will help her get over it xx Thanks everyone for your concern, we appreciate it xx
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Poor Hattie hope her confidence is not dented too much by this horrid experience.
