11 month old lab, first season.
Started 4 weeks ago with a small amount of fairly watery blood, been a little off food, a bit quiet but ok in general.
Stopped bleeding a week or so ago so thought all was good.... now yesterday and today she is bleeding again but really heavy! I'm having to clean her, put cloths under her everywhere she lays and she hasnt really moved for 2 days, hasn't eaten any of her food (although I did offer her some bits of human food just to tempt her and she was more than happy to scoff them!)
I'm thinking this is not at all normal but wanting some advice... rang emergency vet and it's £140 just to be seen so hoping that experienced bitch owners are going to tell me it's fine??!! We are first time bitch owners so a bit lost

Hi and welcome , please take her to a Vet , this isn't normal at all, in fact its worrying that she is not eating her food and is lethargic plus the heavy blood loss . I truly hope it isn't serious, but if she were mine , I would want to get advice as soon as possible , good luck .

Yeah I would take her to the vet straight away. It could be an infection or something. Monday is a long time away if she's really poorly x

I would take her straight to the emergency vet. Better £140 for a false alarm than a major problem.

I'd say that's definitely not normal, she needs to see a vet.

It doesn't sound normal to me. I know it's expensive, but after my girl having pyometra and needing emergency surgery where it was touch and go, I wouldn't hesitate in going to the vets.

    Vet for me too.
Pyometra is the big worry here.
    Hope she is okay.
Please let us know how she is.

Thank you for everyone's replies, I knew in my heart it wasn't normal. We took her to emergency vet last night after we tried to take her out for a wee and she couldn't get up.
she now has antibiotics and some kind of anti inflammatory medicine. She is so poorly I honestly wasn't sure she would still be here this morning! She seemed to go downhill really fast after I'd posted.
Sat up with her all night last night as she was breathing really rapidly with tummy sucking in and nostrils flaring.
She's managed a couple of tail wags this morning when she's seen us but other than that she has slept all day. Her breathing has calmed and I'm hoping the antibiotics are kicking in.
We are going to make her an appointment in the morning and the emergency vet said it's likely that if the bleeding hasn't stopped or she hasnt improved significantly that she will need to be spayed. She has refused to eat or drink today and hasn't been out for a wee at all.
We are so worried about her and praying antibiotics kick in quickly!
It cost us £300 for last night and is likely to cost us even more in the coming week but if it gets her well again it's worth every penny! Only wish I hadn't listened to all the people who told me not to bother insuring her as it wasn't worth it and they never pay out. Very expensive mistake

I am so sorry , but at least you did the right thing , and hopefully she will be fine once the antibiotics take affect, poor girl . No one on here will judge you , and yes, not insuring can be a terribly expensive mistake but once this is over , its not too late to take out a policy even though she has been so poorly . Please let us know how she gets on, keep us posted , we all love all dogs , my thoughts are with you and yours x

You poor thing, and your poor dog. I'd be very concerned about her not drinking. Can you coax her to lick water off your hand?

Fingers crossed she continues to improve. Well done for getting her to the vet yesterday.

So glad you managed to get her to the vets. Fingers crossed she gets better soon. As for not drinking, might be worth putting a few tuna flakes into some water and see if she will have a little bit of drink to stop her getting dehydrated.
I agree with Kate that it would be worth getting insurance once she is better. They may put an exclusion on anything with her tummy, but at least you would be covered for everything else.
Please do keep in touch and let us know how she's doing, and take care of yourself x

My pup has eaten ice cubes when she's been reluctant to drink, I've also crushed some up.
The tuna flakes in water thing has also worked, plus giving her the water drained from any vegetables I've cooked, either in a small bowl or a bit added to food.

A bit of honey in water and dip your hand in the water and hold it to her mouth. When one of my Labs was really poorly, I kept dipping my hand in the water and putting it to her mouth almost willing her to drink. Really hope the antibiotics are making her better.

She got up a couple of hours ago when I went to put the bin out so I took her for a little walk up the street and she had a sniff, was up and alert for about 20 mins and then crashed again. She's still very poorly but I think the antibiotics are having some effect although very slowly, probably partly due to the fact she's been sick about half an hour after each one she's taken! She's got up for a wander a few times but she's still very weak.
I was giving her water with a syringe so she was getting a little but she's drinking a bit more now and she's been out for the toilet so that's good.
Some of her medicine required to be taken with food and as she was refusing her food I mixed her some weetabix and milk and she couldn't get it down fast enough so clearly starving!
She keeps getting the shivers and is cold to touch so have to keep wrapping her up to warm her.
The bleeding has slowed massively! She's pretty dry down there now and only leaving a few small spots so fingers crossed that will keep slowing and stop soon.
Thanks for all the lovely messages, I'm so glad I found this forum!
