We have a family of hogs living under a very large Pieris bush in our front garden , I am thrilled to bits and pleased that they arent in the back garden where they could be disturbed by a small scruffy person ( Millie ) We saw them first last week , big Mummy and her family of babies , routing around under the bird table , so the following night we put out a saucer of cat food , wow, it went in seconds Just wondering now if we should make a house for them for the colder months, or leave them under the bushes . I`m going to try and get a photo of all of them tonight, got one rather rubbish photo of one baby the other night but I want one of the whole family , just love having wildlife so close
Re: Hedgehogs I would make a den for them - the kids in my playscheme make them and put them in all the local green areas for them Unfortunately, I have one who appears most nights in my back garden and Harley barks at it. We have to remove her from the garden until the poor hedgehog can get back to the wooded area behind my house.
Re: Hedgehogs How lucky you are as round here I haven't seen a hedgehog for years. Apparently gardens are well enclosed by fences and we need to put a hole in for them to go from garden to garden. Your hedgehogs will bring all their friends if cat food is on offer ;D
Re: Hedgehogs ;D ;D ;D Yes , as I type, my OH is designing a house for our prickly little friends, for the winter , I have to say that it looks very ambitious indeed , like a bungalow in fact, he doesnt do things by halves :
Re: Hedgehogs How lovely Kate, I adore hedgehogs. Beware with Millie though - our childhood JRT (admittedly from hunt stock) attacked a hedgehog in the garden, and ended up with a massive flea infestation!!
Re: Hedgehogs Thankfully , the hog are in the front garden , so the dogs cant get at them I put a dish of cat food out last night, it seemed that all it attracted was neighbouring cats who were fighting over the food at some unearthly hour this morning :
