I have been in that situation myself you know logically you are being kind and caring but your heart is so sore. I so sorry but you did the best thing for your dog and showed how deep and selfless your love for him was. I'm sorry for your loss and send love.

Oh thank you so much for responding. It is very kind of you. Isn't it awful how empty your house feels? I keep forgetting he has gone but I do know it is early days. X

I’m very sorry to read your news about Alfie. Please try not to feel guilty, though. You did the most difficult - yet kind and considerate - thing for him and it sounds as if it couldn’t have been more peaceful, particularly as he was at home and feeling very much loved.

It’s natural to feel so sad, but I hope you will eventually have many happy memories of Alfie’s long and happy life. Big hugs. x

Thank you so much for your kindness. I miss him so much. For the last 4 months, in particular, he has needed a lot of care. I suddenly have time and freedom but I would rather have him here. Love to you too x

Thank you so much for responding to me. Your words are comforting. I know the happy memories will eventually be more than the guilt I feel. He was very much loved and I am sure he felt it. He gave so much love in return. He was a wonderful family member. Thank you again.

Barbara so so sorry to hear this, I've had to say goodbye to three dogs previously one of which I had to have PTS after turning on me unprovoked and leaving over 100 stitches in my head, the heartbreak and guilt I felt was enormous. It is completely normal to feel guilty but you did the right thing for Alfie and he won't have felt a thing, he'll have just gone to sleep and he'll be happily chasing cats up there to his hearts content, feeling like a puppy again Thinking of you and your family, take time to grieve and remember the good times xx

Dear Vicki thank you so much for your kind words. You have been through a lot of grief too from what I have read. I know really that we did the right thing. It was very peaceful but the guilt won't go away. I know it will in time. Thank you again for taking the time to respond to me. Sending love xxx

Dear Barbara, I am new to the forum and am so sorry for your loss.

We had to make the difficult decision yesterday to have our sweet 11 year old chocolate lab, Chewy, rest and join his brother, Vader, over the Rainbow Bridge.
