We are branching out! GSP's, how super! I think Helen (with Charlie) will be particularly interested, as Charlie is part pointer. Anyway, welcome, we labrador types are a friendly lot :D much like our dogs ;D.

Yep, I will definitely be tapping you up for helpful training tips with our rescue Charlie who has lets just say been a 'hand full'

A well known gundog trainer (Cockers etc) says to teach the dog to recall by its name only, which I have found quite difficult as I usually say the dog's name and then come or recall whistle.

One of my early dilemas that I hope to get an answer too. When to teach a dog it's name or is it important to teach it at all ?

Where does it fit into early stages of development such as in pippas guides ?

Welcome :) I too am new here but enjoying all the reading very much.

I used to own/work German Wirehaired Pointers before little black Lab took over my life.

I think GSPs are much kinder and less stubborn that their GWP cousins?

Yes the nature is meant to be slightly softer and friendlier although any GWP I have met have been wonderful.

Very close to looking at wire haired vizsla and GWP because I work so much hard cover and wetlands but so far the GSP have been up to the task

And a tiara and pink ballgown - which, may I remind everyone, we have yet to see him wear because "it's at the back of a cupboard". ::)

Re: Hello from a GSP owner

It IS at the back of a cupboard, and a high cupboard too. But if I ever get it down I'll dress up the dog in it. Promise.

Obi says Thankyou for making a case against his categorisation as 'bog standard'. He also says No Thanks At All for pressing for him to be dressed up in a pink frock.

Hey, if he feels another colour would be more flattering...
