Hi all, first time Lab owner though we do have a rescued 5year old Staffy Milo, but Aramis is our first real puppy, and only brought home a few days ago. He's taken to crate training like a champ, and is already pretty much house trained except for when I'm not quick enough, but any other tips will be especially welcome? And if anyone can help with how best to continue to introductions to Milo that would be really appreciated ? Milo shows no signs of agression towards him, but runs away instead when he's had enough of Aramis's over enthusiastic overtures.
Hi, and welcome from Holly and me in Wales. House training is a matter of patience and persistence. Every time he wakes up or eats get him straight outside to his allotted spot and praise him loads when he performs. His bladder is very small so he'll need to go quite frequently for the first few months. He'll probably have a few accidents, or sometimes you might think his training takes a backward step, but stick at it. There is lots of excellent advice about Labrador puppies on the website http://www.thelabradorsite.com/. Pippa's "Happy Puppy Handbook" will help you to get through the early days. And please post lots of puppy pictures. We love them on this site!
Welcome to you both from Hattie 9 years and our rescue boy Charlie 6 years, we live in Hampshire, UK. x
Welcome to the forum from me, Wispa (5) and Tuppence (3). It's important to give Milo his own space so that he can retreat from Aramis when he's had enough of those enthusiastic overtures. Crate training Aramis will also give you uninterrupted time with Milo so he doesn't feel left out. Have you got a tuggy toy that they can play with together? I hope they soon become best friends.
Can I just say I love the name Tuppence, what a lovely name. And, thanks for the idea about tug toys , we do have some and I will encourage it more. Yh we have been making more time for milo alone, and as Aramis still can't be walked yet we've been making that our special time too. Can I ask does anyone know how to post photos from photo bucket? I've got an account and have been trying to post but I can't seem to get it right? And, thank you everyone else for your warm welcome.
Welcome to you from Mags, Tatze and Mollie from Manchester UK Tatze is my pet dog, a black Lab and she's four years old. Tatze means 'paw' in German. Mollie is my fourth Guide Dog puppy, a black Lab who is six months old. He's lovely ...
Welcome to the forum. Well done at working out how to post photos. Aramis is very cute, and a lovely name. How old is he?
Ah I'm glad you like the name, I had to fight hard for it, and have had a lot of raised eyebrows. We picked him up on Monday , and he turns nine weeks on Friday , so he's still very young .
Hi! How lovely to have s pup. Worth all the hard work and maybe some early mornings. I remember doing 15 minute trips to the garden for wees. Also after waking, before and just after feeding. Last garden trip at about 11.30 then up at about 5! Then just gently stretching it by 15 mins every morning. At almost 3, we still get up at 6.30. You have found a really helpful site. Enjoy your little one!
Hello, and welcome from Natalie and my 3 yr old lab Monty. I don't often go gooey over puppy photos as I think I prefer the grown up version but Aramis is truly lovely in those photos! As for the potty training keep going as you are with lots of trips outside, a bit of patience and and treating when he goes and you'll get there pretty quickly. I actually found potty training one of the easier things with Monty - and I still occasionally give him a treat if he wees on demand! You'll get loads of great advice about introducing your pup to an older dog on here too, which I don't have any experience of. Keep us updated with more photos of that little cutie...
X Thank you both for the welcome ! Potty training is going well , only one accident today which was my fault for again not being quick enough, but he's ever so good so I don't mind. However the introductions still aren't going great , but again very early days so I'm not too down, I think despite all our best efforts milo is a little jealous .
Welcome from me and Lilly in Scotland - he is very cute, and I love his name. I know there is a fragrance called Aramis, but to me it is the name of the horse in CS Lewis's The Horse and His Boy - loved CS Lewis and the Narnia books growing up.
Aww thank you, I'm slightly embarrassed to say I loved The cartoon Dogtanian and the musket hounds as a child, and it lead me as a teenager to love Alexander Dumas's The Three Musketeers, and then recently I binge watched the BBC boxset, and I had just always loved the name Aramis , and esp in the book when he can be quite unlikeable his loyalty/love for his friends always shone through, and then of course it's followed through with the tv series where he's a lot more likeable lol and it just felt like the right name.
