New to the Forum and thought I'd introduce myself. I have a black Labrador of 2 Years. Unfortunatley he has became very sick in the last couple of months and recently had to have an operation due to crystals in his bladder. The operation seemed to of helped but over the past couple of days has been showing signs of pain and straining to wee. Off to the vets we both went today and he had a catheter put in to check for any blockages. The catheter seems to of moved a Bladder Stone and my boys bladder emptied on the vets table, he must of been in so much pain. The vet sent us home and told us to continue on the Prescription Diet he was prescribe after the operation.

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. My vet did mention this isnt a good sign in such a young dog and crystals and stones have a habit of re-occuring. I just dont know what to do for the best. The last operation took it right out of him and i dread to think what a second would do and should they come back a further one.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you've come here at a worrying time. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you, but I'm sure someone with experience will be along shortly.

Just wanted to say hi too.
I'm afraid I have no experience of this either but I am sure another of our members does - or did - but I can't recall who.
Sorry you and your boy are having such problems.

    Hi and welcome.

Bladder stones/ crystals is quite a common problem in Dalmations, it may pay you to have a read and ask questions around the Dalmation forums, they may be able to give advice and ideas on how to cope.

Hi and welcome. I can imagine it's very difficult to see your boy so poorly. I don't have any experience around crystals and stones, but have a female lab who has had major tummy trouble and had to have an emergency spay just before she was 1 due to pyometra and a twisted hernia. It is really difficult to see them in pain, but I am sure that like me you are giving lots of cuddles and pain meds to help. I hope someone else can give you advice around crystals and stones.
